Wow. Pretty sad situation there. I'm no saint... I beat the shit out of my younger brothers for using my NES without asking back in the day, but i never got the urge to go stab them over it.

Of course video games are to blame. We all know no one ever acted violently until video games. We all remember the days when Pong first became available and epidemic began where people started hitting each other with table tennis paddles. I, myself, have to strongly resist to urge to jump on every turtle I see or throw fireballs at them if I've recently eaten flowers. I blame this all on video gaming warping me during my formative years I was completely incapable of separating reality from fantasy.

Or maybe, just maybe this part of the article is more important:

The boys' adoptive mother was in Belgium. The two are said to have been abandoned by their biological mother and were in care for 10 years before being taken in.

The annoying part about this was that the little brother bought the system thinking now he ask to ask me for permission to play and the older brother had too much pride or whatever to ask nicely.

He could have just said "Hey bro, can I play your playstation." and his response would have likely been yes.

in order to play his new game he update his brother ps3,and wipe the other os,he used the ps3 like a computer...but thats not a reason to kill anybody...how sad.

[citation][nom]stridervm[/nom]People kill each other over dumb =?= arguments. The best I have seen on local news is an argument over a mecha TV show (Who's gonna win? Voltes V or the enemy monster/robot of the week?) >_>[/citation]

The town I live in had an incident worse than that a couple years ago. One brother stabbed another over a Hot Pocket. I think they were fighting over who would be forced to eat the disgusting thing...

I was really surprised that people concluded video games to be the primary catalyst to the stabbings.

In this situation, not sure if I'm reading the article correctly, the boys were adopted. Not the best environment for healthy functioning children. They already will be vulnerable to a whole host of issues.

I'd be willing to bet that if the investigators performed a psych evaluation. The child would show symptoms of sociopathic behaviors. Or at least some form of psychotic behavior.

Normal people don't kill people casually, let alone their own brother because of using the PS3 without asking permission. It's highly unlikely in this case that violent games are the catalyst.

Just my opinion.

Kid RAGE is a dangerous thing the PS3 was the trigger, but lack of more adult supervision was probably the real problem.

I'm sure the kid went through psychotic episodes habitually that probably got brushed under the carpet though.

[citation][nom]spikey_monkey[/nom]I agree. I believe a general loss of control is a result of humanity's overwhelming surrender to materialism. When "commerce is your God," it is hard to understand why there are ancient ethics that have governed humanity for so long. Not saying other era's in history didn't have problems with ethics, though...[/citation]

Oh go fuck yourself you damn fundie nutter.

Think you mean Christian eating lion.

Otherwise Christians need to stop saying the Romans were against them.[citation][nom]piman[/nom]"to lay the blame at the feet of video games is extremelly disingenuous and downright naive." If you don't think that a kid playing violent games day and night that basically show them the way to deal with someone you don't agree with is to blow them away then it is you that is being "extremely disingenuous and downright naive"[/citation]

Um, yet how come violent crime rates have gone down? And study after study shows it has no affect. The only studies saying it has a affect their methods are questionable at best, or outright lies at worst.

You fighting against reality, you lose.

[citation][nom]ErrolDC[/nom]well now what are they going to do with the extra controller?[/citation]

Well done good sir, I believe this would be at 20 if it was on the first page.

[citation][nom]MetalPinhead[/nom]At no other time in history have we been so close to wiping out the planet with all of the nukes, diseases, stressed economies, and power hungry factions. Seriously, you need to do a little research before making those kinds of statements.[/citation]

Ummmmmm, there was a time called the 20th century. WWI, WWII, COLD WAR, Cuban missile crisis, Small Pox, Polio, AIDS, the Great Depression, the Holocaust, etc. Seems like things have started getting a bit more civilized since video games.

Where are violent games involved here? His older brother powered on the PS3, and that was enough. For all we know, their game collection may have been composed of Dora the Explorer.

The real problem here is the state of these children that have been in care for years, 10 in this case, before being adopted. Adopted children in general have a hard time fitting in, but being without a family for years has a terrible effect on these children. I wish there was half as much effort spent pointing out the problems that these children face as pointing out the "dangers" of video games.

I heard of people getting killed over a cheeseburger, but over a playstation?! At least a cheeseburger you can eat. I could only imagine what was going on in his head at the time... Obviously was thinking of that cheeseburger.
