I have a Canon G6 and am interested am looking forward to some outdoor
photography this winter. My question is: what do I have to be worried
about in taking the camera from a warm house to the cold outdoors and back
again? Is condensation going to be a problem? How do I overcome this?

Thanks in advance

Well, I've not done this myself, but a friend does and it seems to work
pretty well. Going from inside to outside isn't much of a problem, but
coming back in can be. As you undoubtedly know, when anything cold
comes into contact with warm (and humid) air, the moisture condenses and
tends to muck things up. So, he always carries a clean plactic bag with
him to seal his equipment (one camera, one lens, filters, spare CF
card/battery, etc) inside of BEFORE he steps into the house - his
equipment and a bunch of dry air sealed in the bag. This way, his
equipment takes a little longer to warm up (couple of hours), but
condensation forms on the outside of the bag, not the outside of the
equipment. Once the sealed equipment has warmed up, removal from the
bag is without concern.
