the DVD player doesn't connect with the HDMI - the tv says no signal - why won't it work?

connecting the Toshiba DVD player to the TV with the HDMI cords doesn't work - it says no signal - what am I doing wrong?

Have you cycled through all the HDMI inputs? Make sure you do this with the DVD player playing a disc, so it is outputting a constant signal.

Yes - there are only 2 on the TV - one is hooked up to the cable, the other is open - but doesn't pick up the DVD player - I switched the cords so the HDMI for the cable is in the 2 position to see if the 1 position works with the DVD ... it does not
