Ok, I realize this has probably been asked a thousand times so forgive me. I need the impossible. I need a laptop that will play Minecraft for under $300. I would like to buy a laptop for my son for christmas. Right now he is using a Dell Inspiron 15 R 5520. It has 8gb ram and integrated graphics. It's been working well actually. He does has trouble with some things like FTB was very laggy when he tried to play it yesterday. He doesn't often use a lot of big mods like that though. Other than that it's been fine. I think he had a little trouble with crazy craft too. I do not know how to build my own laptop. I was looking at the dell outlet refurbished stuff online. I know I'm not going to get much for under 300, but a little better would be nice. He only plays minecraft and ocassionally sims.

I can get a dell inspiron 3558 for 298. Processor: Intel Core 5th Generation i3-5015U Processor (Dual Core, 2.1GHz, 3M Cache, 15W)
Windows 10 Home 64bit English
1 TB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
8 GB Dual Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (4GBx2) Memory
15.6-inch HD (1366 x 768) Truelife LED-Backlit On-cell Touch Display
Tray load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)
Intel HD Graphics

Or an inspiron 5555 Processor: AMD A10-8700P Processor (Quad Core, up to 3.20GHz, 2M Cache, 35W)
Windows 10 Home 64bit English
1 TB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
8 GB Dual Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (4GBx2) Memory
15.6 inch LED Backlit On-cell Touch Display with Truelife and HD resolution (1366 x 768)
Tray load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)
Intel HD Graphics

or i can get a inspiron17 - 5758 for 318

Dell Inspirion 17 - 5758 is a good laptop, and it should do the work.

Minecraft recommended specs are: dual-core CPU at 2.6 GHz and 4GB of RAM. Insirion 17 - 5758 has Intel Core i7 CPU (4 cores at 2.4GHz) , 8GB of RAM , and a very good GPU (NVIDIA GeForce 920M ; 4GB) which is more than enough to run Minecraft or Sims smoothly.

I use a laptop with similar specs, and I am really satisfied with gaming experience.

The Inspirion 17 he put in his OP has a i3 processor unit according to the specs he posted. If that's the case it certainly wouldn't be the one to choose. I agree however if it does have the i7 it would be the best choice.

Oh, I didn't see this... When I answered it it wasn't edited, so I looked for specs on the internet and found that insirion17 has i7 in it. Sorry, my mistake :) . Then, I think Inspirion 5555 is the best solution :)

The one we currently have is a 15r 5520 with an i5 processor. Would the 5555 be worse or better? There is another one, but I don't know if we could swing it because it's 450. It's Inspiron 15 - 5559
Processor: Intel Core 6th Generation i7-6500U Processor (Dual Core, up to 3.10 GHz, 4M Cache, 15W)
Windows 10 Home 64bit English
1 TB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
8 GB Dual Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (4GBx2) Memory
15.6 inch LED Backlit On-cell Touch Display with Truelife and HD resolution (1366 x 768)
Tray load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)
AMD Radeon R5 M335 4GB DDR3

The 5555 wouldn't be much different than the one you have but this 1 that you just posted would be a significant improvement.

He wants a laptop that he can take to grandmas house. We have a pretty good desktop that has no problem at all with games, but he likes to be able to take it with him. I think we might try to get the last one I posted if it's better than what we have now. I'll just have to add a few more items to the garage sale :)

a 2 cell battery? with a low voltage cpu shouldnt be a issue but companies really still use 2 cells?

he could even branch out to civilization if he wanted as i had a laptop with a 940m and was able to play a lot of games despite it being ddr3.

That is enough for Minecraft

Your husband is a tightwad. :)

How about the following Acer laptop for $486.37? It has a Core i5-6200u, nVidia 940m (only marginally slower than the 940mx) and a 1080p screen. The nVidia 940m is definitely more powerful than Radeon R7 M440 which is not much more powerful than a 920m.
