There is too much lag time between typing in an email and the words showing up on the screen

As I type, my hands are moving but the words are dragging. I use Yahoo mail and typing emails is extremely difficult. I type whole paragraphs and have to wait for the computer to catch up. Does this make sense? I'm not sure what to call it, but I feel like the letters are dragging behind my typing. Can anyone help?
