I currently have a Lenovo ideapad Z585. I'd rather stay away from Apple computers but I'm not completely against the idea.
1. What is your budget?
Between 500 and 1000 USD. If I have to bite the bullet and spend 1100, I'll do it.
2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
Currently using a 15.6 in. I'm happy with that.
3. What screen resolution do you want?
Least of my concerns, something decent I guess.
4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Yes, I do not have a desktop and I'm using my current laptop for school work and as an entertainment center (Netflix, some games, streaming to my TV, etc.).
5. How much battery life do you need?
Also not as important, I'm always plugged into the wall because I'm too lazy to get up and charge my laptop when it's not connected to a power source.
6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Yes. I'm having trouble playing Batman: Arkham Asylum and Tomb Raider on my current set up. Games I still plan on playing: Alan Wake, Far Cry, The Sims, TES: Skyrim, Last of Us, Sid Meir's Civ V & Minecraft.
I guess I'd be okay with medium settings: anything higher would be breaking the bank.
7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
I don't do much other than what I described above. I'm a big fan of streaming from Netflix, Hulu, HBO and casting to my TV. School work consists of writing reports and the occasional powerpoint presentation.
8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
I'm kinda clueless about HD's. I just know that SSD are preferable to traditional hard drives. I'd say maybe... 4-8 gb?
9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
I'm not computer savy so I'm using places like Bestbuy. Barely getting acquainted with TigerDirect and Fry's.
10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
Maybe 2-3 years, by then I'd like to have a desktop as my primary computer for any heavy duty gaming/work.
11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
A CD-ROM I guess, I have Star Wars: KOtOR, Sims 3, and Zoo Tycoon on discs.
12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
Currently on Lenovo, I've enjoyed using it since I got it 2-3 years ago.
My good friend used a low end HP laptop and she would always mention that it was getting broken. The hinge stopped working and I think it overheated easily (this was 5-8 years ago).
Before my current laptop, I used a Samsung NP-R580. Also used it for school work. Couldn't play Minecraft because it was too laggy even on the lowest settings.
13. What country do you live in?
Texas, USA
14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
I need to travel on a weekly basis for school (50 min drive) I wouldn't want to sacrifice my computer's performance for less weight. I don't mind the weight my Lenovo uses but if this new one weighs less AND outperforms my current computer, I'm all for it.
