[citation][nom]warmon6[/nom]Well which would you have? replacing and xbox 360 every time it died due to heat or the xbox protecting its self before it gets damaged. I think i would take option B. Now this is something that they should of done while back in my personal option but guess it's better late than than.[/citation]

A. I don't have an xbox360, i play on my pc

B. i was thinking about getting a xbox360 just to play the exclusives (depends on if they release fable2 on pc or not)

If the new xbox shuts down like this i would probably get a jasper.

I was just thinking about the shooter games on xbox where the team play is important, would it just shutdown or can you tell your teammates first?

did somebody try to overheat jasper? i think the S model has a 45nm process and is a lot better than jasper's 65nm process build. plus, it's already said that the S has a proper placement of things that are prone to give you this kind of sh@$ compared to the older models. now if someone forces to overheat jasper just like what they did to S, think again Gamer-"girl".

Yes and all you Crapbox 360 owners get use to this, you will see it allot. Might as well be the RROD because you still can't play your kiddie console games.

[citation][nom]ulysses35[/nom]Microsoft should head to a decent PC shop like www.thecoolingshop.com and buy huge stocks of proper HSF's....[/citation]
Or
Instead of allowing the unit to generate lots of heat that requires cooling
Simply
Reduce the amount of heat generated in the first place
So much so that the PSU is 135w instead of over 200w
And
If some idiot blocks the vents whilst leaving the unit in direct sunlight or next to a radiator then thermal sensors and power management will shut the unit down until the unit cools - rather than simply allowing the unit to keep getting hotter and hotter until the solder melts and gives the unit all the functionality of a house plant.

All in all, a better solution by MS.

[citation][nom]footsoldier[/nom]pretty cool, that should prevent it from dying. nice job[/citation]

Yeah, when I buy a console I always want the choice between can't play and can't play. What?

Maybe instead of making it slimmer and encapsulating the same amount of heat in a smaller area, they should have made a console that actually works. What a piece of junk. I'll ask my 3 year old niece to build my next console before Microsoft's "engineers". Glad I have a PS3 so I don't have to deal with the 360 when I don't want to.

[citation][nom]irish_adam[/nom]considering that they have changed the chips inside i doubt that this will happen often, only a few idiots that keep theirs on a heater or block all the vents will have an issue.and tbh i'd rather get cut off once in a while and not have to replace my xbox[/citation]

I'd rather have a console that actually works...but that apparently isn't an option with microsoft.

PS...in the pictures above, all the vents aren't covered. It appears to be in a very standard home setup situation.

[citation][nom]insider3[/nom]It's either that, or being without one for a few weeks because you weren't warned. Take your pick.[/citation]

There's a tertium quid here too...a third choice. Don't buy Microsoft's crap.

I have a very simple rule when it comes to Microsoft products...
Wait 3-5 years after release to purchase, because that's how long it takes them to make the product worth buying.

[citation][nom]sjo102784[/nom]Apparently Gamer-girl needs to learn about proper ventilation[/citation]

Apparently Gamer-girl expects her money to buy her a working console. My PS3 in a very similar situation to the pictures has not once even hinted at overheating. My 360...well, its given me more than one scare, and they are infamous for overheating. When I give a company money for something I expect their product to work, and work as advertised. I've never seen an xbox commercial or advert that showed people getting cut out of their game for red-ringing, or red-dotting. Have you?

[citation][nom]shanky887614[/nom]why not have warning's pop-up at certain temperaturesthink microsoftit is not hard to add it so that it warns you every 10 degries above a certain point say from 50 desgrese upto the tempertature that it shuts down (and just a little thing in one of the corners)[/citation]

Why not fix the root of the problem?!!

Maybe you should have read the previous articles about this unit describing the reduction in die-size, power consumption and PSU before posting ignorant, knee-jerk, scare-mongering comments.
Maybe.

Too true. The naive buying public = Microsoft's unpaid beta testers.

[citation][nom]Gamer-girl[/nom]so when your playing with your friends online, you not only have to worry about lag and disconnecting but now you gotta add the console turning itself of in the middle of a game......[/citation]

When I got to this post, you were the only one who had said anything that actually made sense. Microsoft needs to FIX issues, not substitute fixes for built-in excuses.

Appears to have fixed the problem doesn't it? So MAYBE that doesn't matter if it doesn't DO anything useful.
