I'm currently searching for the best bang for the buck laptop for my mum ( a total no tech ) who doesnt want to join the master race yet lol with a decent keyboard, 15 inch or bigger display and a general decent os with decent quality components.
I have found some refurbished Apple Mac Pro 15 inch laptops the i7 editions for £725 on a google search.
Would this be worth investing in? Has anyone had any experience with refurbished macbook pro's and can you suggest other laptops with her wants above for under £1200 ( shes very concerned about spending too much money ) that is in or ships to the uk?

Bang for buck and Apple shouldn't be put in the same sentence together. Jokes aside, I don't know how prices are where you live, but I have a 2011 Macbook pro with an i7 and it gets the job done.

You'll get much better performance for the same price out of a windows PC though.

Considering basic laptops new start at <£300 I'd be pretty miffed at spending £725 for a second-hand Apple...

Looking at my 2 year old Asus RoG 17", i7, 16GB RAM, Samsung Evo SSD + 1TB HDD and GTX 860 - that was just over £1000 new. If you don't need a good GPU, there's all manner of gorgeous Dell, HP, ASUS, Lenovo etc machines out there for that kind of money.

You could go on ebay and bargain-hunt, that is what I did and now I am typing this answer from a $50 macbook 13 inch. Though I would recommend going with a PC because I also have a $100 Lenovo ThinkPad from ebay, and it can run windows 10 (my mac can only run mac os lion) and the mac has some issues (battery not recognized). In my case where I just wanted to play around with a mac, and have a more stable PC dealing with the mac's issues isn't too bad.
