to play TV audio from my sony DAV-DZ950 home theatre

I just aquired a sony DAV-DZ950 home theatre.I just can't my samsung plasma TV audio to play from HTS. I have used HDMI cable but nothing...i tried the red and white audio RL cable also, it still didn't work. The HTS remote has TV(HDMI) button, optical/audio in button... i just can't get to work out the combination

According to this manual -- http/download.sony-asia.com/consumer/IM/4465268112.pdf The HDMI on the Sony is an OUTPUT. You should be able to use the red/white OR if your TV has an optical or coax digital output you should use that.
What is the model of the TV ?

my TV has optical output but i don't have the cable at the monement. The HTS manual mentioned the red/white as a means to play TV audio. My friend has TV and HTS sonny and has no problem playing TV audio.
