TomTom Start device not recognised by Windows 7 PC

I have TomTom Start series 20 and cannot get MyDrive Connect on Windows 7 PC to recognise my device. What are the specific names of the drivers I need? I don't want to do a general update of all drivers as every time I do this my PC crashes so I stopped doing driver updates a while back. Hope someone can help, TIA

Log into your MyDrive Connect software, Click on My Content near the top center. Select the update which should be listed in the My Updates and New Content.

I cant remember if you need your TomTom connected to do this or not but I'm thinking you do.

Thanks but I can't see how to do this. It insists that I attach my device but then it doesn't recognise the device so I can never get any further or see the screen you are describing. Instead I just get directed to this page, which doesn't help me:

Me again: suddenly it started working, not quite sure why, and says all software is updated. Let's see what happens next time I use it. Hopefully it will get a GPS signal within a reasonable time next time rather than 25 minutes after I switched it on, like what happened yesterday! Thanks for your help in any case
