I have a Toshiba C55-A5285 laptop which I got about 2 years ago. I have had problems with the power cable receptor being pushed further into the case which I have had to fix on a couple of occasions. After the latest fix, I am unable to start the computer. When I turn it on, the following happens:

In all situations:
I get a completely black screen (not even any glow).
The CD drive spins up if there is a CD in it.
There appears to be no fan or hard drive activity.
Power button, Caps Lock and Num Lock keys are lit solid.
On/Off indicator light on front of computer (middle of 3 lights) is off.

With the battery in and power cable out-
Front lights- Only Wifi light is on (right most of 3 lights)

With the power cable in and battery out-
Front lights-Power/Battery light and Wifi light are both on (left and right lights)

With the power cable in and battery in-
Front lights-Power/Battery light and Wifi light are both on (left and right lights)
Removing power cable turns off everything, even though the battery is still in.

I've tried checking and reseating all connections, as well as pressing the power key for 1-2 minutes without the battery or power cable attached to drain all power and retrying without any luck. The hard drive does boot on another computer. Does anyone have any ideas as to any possible solutions? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in resolving the issue.
- Do a hard reset first, remove the battery (if a laptop) and the AC plug then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then see if it will boot up normally.
- If there are lights and you hear the fan spinning try connecting an external monitor and see if you'll get any display from it.
- Reseat the RAM, take them all of for couple of seconds then put them back in making sure that they are seated properly into each slot.
- If all these will not work it's probably the motherboard that is faulty.
