I have some interest in the Toshiba 34HF84, their 34 inch HD CRT. My
interest was price and size would fit my entertainment center. However I
have read some negatives about after the sale service. I read of one
customer who swears never to buy from them after getting the set and having
it go out in two days. Toshiba gave him runaround, no replacement, serviced
three times with still no working set. I have found their website service
poor, found it did not work to find a local dealer and email contact gave
no answers just pointed back to their faulty website. They gave no effort
to be helpful. A little concerned. Any comments.

I've been fortunate with my 65H80 RPTV. Although I had a problem wiht it
shutting itself off occasionally, it was infrequent and I never bothered to call
for service. Some people had a major problem with this and it took Toshiba
several months to find the cause - an undersized capacitor. Mine now shuts off
only about once a year, which I can live with.

I've been very happy with the Toshiba otherwise. The internal line doubler is
excellent on non-HD sources. I feed satellite, VCR, DVD to this set and all
produce very good pictures. HDTV is outstanding. For the money I'd still go
with RPTV in a 65" even though I'm impressed with DLP and LCD in smaller
screens. Actually I'd like to go up to 72" if I could wall mount something but
I don't have the lighting conditions or physical layout suitable to front
projection. And plasma that size would bankrupt me plus it has burn-in issues.

Hi: I own the Toshiba 34" HF and I love it. I have not had any service
issues so far so I cannot comment on it. The TV is great. Ed Tucker

Check out the local servicers who are ASCs for Toshiba. Talk to them about
their relationship with Toshiba and get a feel for what kind of service they
wil provide. Toshiba does not have their own techs in your area but will
refer you to the local ASC. Their abilities and attitudes make a great
difference in the kind of service you get. Issues such as exchanges and
accomodation on out of warranty repairs and parts backorders will depend on
Taoshiba. In this regard you are likely better off with Hitachi and
Mitsubishi, which among the major vendors are the most likely to accomodate
a consumer.

I have the Toshiba 62HM94 and am basically happy with the set. The only
problem that I have had is with the TV Guide that comes with it (My set
has an integrated tuner). MY TV Guide has never worked even though I
have run set-up several times. I have been working with Toshiba on this
and they have recorded some diagnostic data from my set. Since they have
been unable to get the problem fixed they have finally decide to replace
me set. So far I have been happy with Toshiba's response to the problem.
