Hello,

Recently the keyboard for my Toshiba E55-A5114 stopped working, miraculously next after the factory warranty expired.
It absolutely doesn't function at all and I have a password to login to the computer. So I purchased an external keyboard, however it doesn't function on the login screen either.
Is there anyway for me to access my computer without losing the data?
Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thank you.

This used to happen once in a while on a laptop of mine. I would pull the battery to get it to fully shutdown, and reboot it which always did the trick.

In both Windows 7 & 8, at the log-in screen, click on the icon in the far lower left-hand corner. One of the choices you will see is the option to turn on an onscreen keyboard. You can then use it to log in.

Good point. On my MSI notebook, which was Win 7, the login screen was optional (seems to be required in Win 8). As I rarely took that notebook out of the house, I had no login screen. As I recall, the keyboard, as well as the mouse did not work when this happened so was just dead in the water.
