Toshiba laptop works via ac adaptor and without battery.. Problem is that if I put my battery back in, laptop doesn't turn on and doesn't charge...

I thought the power jack was the problem...so I bought a new power jack and replaced the old power jack. I also bought another charger too cause' I thought the charger may be the problem...
Do I have to buy a new battery or is there another solution to this? i'll have to temporarily use this laptop while plugged in
