I have 2 Toshiba LED TV's, both are model #: 46L5200U1, that are having identical issues. The screen will begin to flicker, and then cut out entirely, but the sound remains on. Sometimes after an hour or two, but usually after only a few minutes of use. It happens on all inputs, with or without a source plugged in. Turning off the set, then back on will restore the picture, but only for a few minutes. They started doing this within days of each other. I have been unable to find any references to this online, despite having identical units exhibiting identical behaviors. The sets had been installed in a restaurant, each had a cable box run to it via hdmi cable. Has anyone seen this issue before? Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks

I also had an issue with my Toshiba 46L5200U. The set is almost exactly five years old. Recently, the picture would begin to flicker and then go completely dark after the set was on for about thirty seconds to a minute. The picture would come back if the set was powered off and then turned back on. Dropping the back light setting from 80 to 25 corrected the issue for my set as well.

Guys, it's not a problem with the wires or defective board... It's a problem with overheating!! The reason the board is telling the LEDs to turn off is because it's a safety feature (or perhaps it's a bit too sensitive).

The long term solution is to just replace the heatsink or maybe just the thermal paste might do it. The problem is the old one is soldered in so you'll need some soldering know-how.

However, a temporary solution without taking you tv apart is to lower the backlight setting in picture menu to around 50.

By the way, picture settings are independent of source, so you'll need to adjust this setting for your cable input and both hdmi ports.

hope this helps!

Hey there. So no luck w tv? My uncle bought the same one passed away last year. We inherited the tv and are having the same issue! I'm not sure the same tv but Toshiba and I believe a 65 inch? This is ridiculous that you are unable to get them to help or even get the right part! I'm curious on what ended up happening? I'm down w a class action lawsuit?

I have the Toshiba LED TV 46L5200U1 that is at least 5 years old. The picture went out, but the sound stayed on. I have been battling this for for a week.

Took the advice regarding the the backlight over heating. I lowered the picture around 30 and the TV is working fine. However, the picture seems somewhat darker. I increased the brightness and the TV working just fine. Picture has not gone out.

I am very that I found this website. Thank you for posting a great solution that seems to be working. I was getting ready to buy another TV

Hi, could you please tell me which component (on which board) is overheat, such that the heatsink or thermal paste should be replaced? I should be able to do so but I do not know which component is overheat.
