Totally confused about Outlook.com

I cannot for the life of me figure out what the outlook.com that Microsoft is working on is the real one! If I just enter a url of outlook.com, I see something flash by loading from live.com. I get a different look in IE on the desktop vs IE on the metro screen vs the metro mail vs outlook express. Every single one looks different and not a single one looks like the graphics in various articles talking about all the new features. I'd like to use the most current. Can anyone help a simple minded dumb idiot?

they do look different, I usually just go to their website, outlook.com
