There might be US Toyota plants, but do you really think all the money Toyota makes selling cars "Stays in the US?". So what if a few parts to my GM car were made in Mexico or Canada, at the end of the day, most of my money stays in the US. I send enough of my money overseas just by shopping at Wal-Mart. At least I can get cheaper replacement parts at the autoparts store down the street if something needs to be replaced (in the same day at that).

Bringing up the Ford Pinto is pointless. The last Pinto was made in 1980. Bringing up faulty tires is also pointless, name 1 car company that MAKES tires.

Here is my point, if people maintain their vehicles (oil changes, check and change tires, brakes and brake fluid, tranny fluid, air filter, belts, hoses, spark plugs and wires and everything else listed as GENERAL MAINTENANCE), you shouldn't have much go wrong other than normal wear and tear items UNLESS you ABUSE and/or MODIFY your car . The last thing I need to worry about is buying a new car and then have the gas pedal stick or brakes fail before 6 months of owning it.

No car company is perfect, but recalls about possible failures that could cause death vs. little stuff is a big deal to me. Most American recalls that I can think of that actually relate to the car in recent years (not tires, etc.) are small stuff that won't KILL you, unlike Toyota's issues and the recall on the bad Honda airbags.

Everybody has their opinion though and this is mine.

Do you realize that by buying American cars you are ironically supporting an extremely socialist agenda? Not only are you buying from a government sponsored company, but you also are buying from the UAW. UAW workers have no profit motive. Those workers get paid no matter what because they are protected by a union contract.

Whether you think that is good or bad is your own opinion. However I fail to see your fascination with buying "American" cars when those companies have nothing in common with traditional American values.

I buy American, other people don't. We all still have our rights, freedom and own opinions. Big brother hasn't taken my guns either.

Your statement also goes for State and Govt. Employees (who are paid with our tax money). I personally know they screw off on the job and still get paid every 2 weeks. Hell the Govt. Employees get raises every X amount of years just for being on the job, just like the UAW. So by looking down on the UAW, you also shun the State and Govt. employees. Just pointing that out for you.

Of course my statement applies to government employees. I'm not advocating anarchy or anything here, but we clearly have way to many government employees. I live in NY so this is a particularly bitter issue for me!

For now. Wee see a lot of articles about government regulation of the internet here on Tom's Hardware. There's a lot to be concerned about. Also, do you really think the white house will not somehow make business unfair for Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, etc. when they have a vested interest in GM?

Our govt. tries to keep everybody happy. Hense companies are still allowed to sell imported good from China even after the lead paint ordeal. It's a world market and the US does not want to piss off Japan and Germany etc. I see the govt. pushing healthcare on us way before they try to "force" us to buy a GM vehicle. As long as we pay our taxes, I doubt to govt. cares where we spend our money. Our great grandchildren will still be paying on all of this stimulus money the govt. doled out. We could talk about this all day long so I'll stop with that.
