As an American Chevy lover, I have to say: I hope Toyota doesn't die.

I'm not xenophobic by any means, and "Made in USA" doesn't mean jack shit anymore. From personal experience and magazine tests, Toyotas are some of the best trucks across the line, most recently evidenced in the massive snowfall we've gotten in Virginia this year. When no-one else could make it up the hill to my house, my friends and neighbors with Toyotas had no problems.

As for class-actions, a nice primer for the evils of them is "The King of Torts." Class-action lawsuits are a load of shit, and you'd know that if you'd ever been part of one. It's the worst possible way to punish a company, and the worst possible way to get what you deserve.

[citation][nom]omnicron[/nom]Umm I do beleive that most Toyota's sold in the US is made here by American staffed, Japanese owned companies.http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/352936 [...] ess-autos/[/citation]
And that has what to do with the recalls in the EU and Japan???
Stupid much?

This just proves that no car company is perfect...but as the track record...Toyota still leads in the least amount of repairs their vehicles need in a 5 and 10 year period...

Actually with some quick research, the prius issue isn't actual delayed braking, but a delay in feel (since much of the braking is electric for the hybrid to regenerate, as opposed to hydraulic). As far as the rest, there may be some throttle linkages with problems, but much of the issue is a floor mat issue which took place because the heavy duty style all weather floor mat held the pedal in it's ridges. The cars can still stop with the brakes but toyota was forced into a bad situation. Oh and just so you know, I'm not a toyota fan by any means. If you're still worried, check out this blog then do some further research... this is simply another out of control ignorant news article to create fear. http://blogs.motortrend.com/6620540/recalls/wild-out-of-control-toyotas-baloney/index.html

this is exactly what we need... When the economy is tanking the one company that WAS actually doing good and providing more jobs in america then any other car manufacturer, we sue into submission to the point that they have to cut jobs and production. We wonder how we got into this mess... We should sue all the lawyers in America for bringing our society to a slow grinding hault!

"Then, last week Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak reported that his Prius unintentionally accelerated to 97 mph while he was using his cruise control."

So I'm guessing he couldn't find a way to slow the car down in the 45 minutes it took to go that fast in a Prius? lol

To make matters worse, there's talk that Toyota knew about the acceleration problem and lied to the public to conceal the truth. If that's the case, if that is proved true in a court of law, then Toyota may end up closing its doors for good.

Er, It was proven in a court of law that Ford knew that the Pinto's gas tank would explode if the car was hit from behind BEFORE it went on sale, and their still in business

this is why i drive a stick car made by Germans..Yeah they are not the best cars in the world but at least if my gas pedal gets sticky pop the clutch and let the motor BLOW!!!Boom ...lol

I dont know why we all have to complain about car brands..This is going to happen more often because we are going to full computerized cars nothing mechanical...Pretty soon cars that park them selves cars themselves... Lexus...Wink Wink..

I own many cars in my short life...
Honda..lol
Ford Escort worst thing in the world
76 Chevy Malibu - i still own
Daily driver VW GTI 1.8t 300HP tuned and i get about 30Miles to the gallon Still..Beat that Honda ..America...Germany..Toyota ...anything else...

Like i said i really dont care for brands however time after time this pops in my head....
THEY DONT MAKE THEM LIKE THEY USE TO

Ford is the only US brand with a future. General Motors is bankrupt 10 times over and is still being helt up by the US tax payers. Toyota has proven to be the most reliable car company in the world and still is. Toyota is financialy sound compnay. American cars are relatively dangerous compared to Japanese and European ones. Check the crash tests. We all know these facts ... come on ...

As an american, I have owned several Fords (F150, Explorer, Windstar) and Chevys (two S10 Blazers, Suburban), in my experience with them, they do not have the longevity of Toyotas. I would need some type of major repair about 3-5 yrs of owning them from Brand New. While my Dad's 1989 Camry, rusty from Winter/Salt, 360,000 Miles on it, no major Engine or drive train work done it yet, radio is dead but hey, regular maintenance only, and it still runs and purr like the day it came out of the assembly line to this day. In fact the 1989 Camry is soooo quiet, you'd swear the car was not even running. Those who have owned one knows what I am talking about.

To date, my most reliable car is my 1991 Lexus LS400 - bought it in 1997 and it still runs and purr with 240,000 Miles on it. And my Dad just gave me his 96 Avalon as well and it still running with no major issues cept shocks and struts.

I'd have to admit, the current Toyota does not build cars like they did in the 80's and 90's (the golden yrs for Toyota). They had soo much success and superior products that out lasted its competitors, the success has gone to thier heads.

I would hate to see Toyota go away perhaps this will kick them in the rear to go back to what worked which is building quality not quantity.

oh and by the way american car lovers do any of you remember this little problem with your cars ?

General Motors recalled close to one million Cadillac, Pontiac and Chevrolet cars because of fears the air bags may deploy by accident in 2002.

The driver's side air bag inflator modules in these vehicles could come apart at the weld during deployment, sending pieces of the inflators into the passenger compartment and preventing full inflation of the air bag.

Its really funny. Many people here are complaining about the comments against toyota but bash American cars for quality.

While it was true at one point its hardly the case anymore. Of all the cars i've been able to use (I used to travel alot for my job from 2003-2009 (june) I started to like ford and GM for the quality of the cars and performance over toyota and nissan (never drove hondas)

I'm really hopping the volt does well and when they get an suv volt out I will surely buy one.

This is the worst of American culture. A symptom of having too many lawyers and too few engineers. It's no wonder the local manufacturing industry is being out sourced to China and Japan. I wonder if the there would've been the same number of class actions if it had been Ford or GM, I have my doubts.
