Currently i am using Chrome with the AdBlockPlus extension.

I am looking for a way to avoid the tracking cookies and malware/adware.
I jsut read an old article that said ABP was worthless on chrome. Not sure if thats still the case. Its been a while since i was into all this. Looking ofr some updated info and advice.

I do have MSE, and occasionally scan with SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes.

Linux is definitely the best option, but since I'm a windows user too, I have started using a new chrome extension named Bad Ad Johnny, which seems a lot better than what I have used in the past, including ABP. I think you should give it a try and see if it satisfies you too!

the only way I know of doing that (Avoid tracking cookies and malware/adware) is a live Linux distribution, the data will be killed every reboot and nothing can write to the image.
boot to that (Tails,MINT,UBUNTU) then setup and use a unlogged VPN.

the distribution can be loaded via Virtual Machine or direct booting
