I have a non wireless, Sony Bluray. As opposed to running a hundred foot cable down to the router, I was wonder if I can just plug it into to my computer and use the Internet connection coming from there? Anybody? If not, any suggestions?

Solution

You can, but it's not the easiest thing to set up and the exact instructions vary a bit depending on your version of Windows. The feature is called Internet Connection Sharing. Basically your computer connects to your Internet via wifi, then plug the Bluray player into the computer via an ethernet cable. ICS will act like a router, setting up NAT and sharing your wifi connection with the ethernet port.

An easier and more permanent solution would be to get a cheap router which has client mode. In client mode, the router acts like a big wifi adapter, with your device(s) connecting via the LAN port. Basically turning the bluray player's LAN port into a wifi port. Something like this:
