jerryoren :
where do you purchase the audio cable (TOSLINK) You also have to understand that unless I can find a diagram I probably still wont be able to hook it up....... does everything have to run thru my dvd player first? then to the TV and to the Onkyo separately right now I am connected to the internet and Direct TV
I included both User manuals for your devices above which have the diagrams, you will need to download them. TOSLINK cables you can pick up at Wal Mart, Best Buy and any other major chain just ask the Electronics department or the area that sells audio equipment. You can also find them on Amazon or Ebay too.

DVD player will hook up directly to the TV with HDMI as a INPUT probably HDMI 1 just look at the TV on which input you use.
TOSLINK will go as AUDIO OUT to the Reciever You only have 1 TOSLINK and it doesn't look like anything else on the device
TOSLINK connector is going to look like something shaped like that.
On the TV Digital Audio (Optical) Connection Connecting the device using an optical cable does not automatically turn off the TV speakers. To turn off the TV speakers, open the Speaker Select (Sound >Speaker Settings >Speaker Select) menu, then set External Speaker
