Trying to install application on windows vista and program keeps freezing

Hello,
I downloaded a torrent file and it works fine on my desktop computer which is windows 7, but on my laptop which is windows vista, it will not open. It freezes and the computer has to be shut off for the folder to close. I'm not too great with computers but I understand a lot of terminology. The application is a PC game. Help???
