When i plug in my new HDD (WD My Pasport 2 TB, USB powered) to the tv (Samsung UE46f5005) the tv is taking ½-1 minute to read the content. Everytime i navigate to a new folder it takes ½-1 minutes Again. But when i plug in my old Lacie 500 GB external powered 3.5'' HDD, it reads much faster even thoug the WD benchmarks 110/110 MB/s and LAcie only 70/50 MB/s. What is wrong? How can i read the files fast? Would a faster tv like UE46f5500 help me? Should i buy a cheap media center instead like WD TV Live? And would a cheap media center be able to read the harddisk fast?

It's probably due to the fact it has a lot more data to read from the 2TB WD Drive compared to the 500GB Lacie Drive. A faster TV probably won't help. A media center might be something to look at, or a small simple PC that you can link to you TV through HDMI (as if the TV was the monitor for the PC).

It only has 4x times the data to read, so 4 seconds respons time would be acceptable? I even tried formatting the harddrive and then loading only 1 file to the disk. Still slow.

That seems right (the 4x part atleast). I think it has to read the entire drive and make an index of everything available. Even if there is only one file, it has to run through the whole drive because it does not know this.

Edit: But I am unsure why it does this every time you go to a new folder.
