I have a Yamaha av receiver htr 5640 no hdmi or digital optical I'm trying to hook up my LG 50L F6000 HDTV yo get tv dound through receiver please assist

Hello.

Since the LG 50LF6000 has no optical output, your best best is this:
HDMI extractor

Simply connect the HDMI of your Cable/tivo/satellite box/PS4/etc on the HDMI IN of this:

Next connect another cable from the HDMI OUT to your LG TV. Next, connect an optical wire from the SPDIF connector to your HTR5640.

This is the single and cheapest solution for connecting a new TV without any output to your HTR5640. If you use OTA DTV though, you cannot use this.

Simple solution is to use a DAC to convert the TV optical audio out to analog.

You will need to make sure that the optical out is turned on. It should work for anything playing in the TV. Some DACs require the TV to output PCM. The first on on that link will accept 5.1 and stereo inputs.

Hmm...your TV does indeed have an optical connector though?

So just an optical wire from the TV to the HTR5640 should work? Be sure the TV is set to the correct digital audio mode.
