targeting him to keep his voice from being heard

Some chinese policy again... 😛 seriously though, it must be something important, I wonder what it could be :)

It would be safe to assume it's the Russians then. They like to smack Georgia around every now adn then. Some insolent Georgian must have spoken up.

Not very clever of the Russians if they did order it,
now I know who this guy is and I am enticed into wanting to hear what he has to say even though I have no interest in the politics of that area...

What a load of BS. So someone orchestrated a DDOS attack on some of the largest sites on the internet just to shut up some no-name blogger?

Yeah, I have accounts on facebook, twitter, youtube, and google. Maybe they were trying to shut me up! After all, I am that important!

""Now it's obvious it's a special attack against me and Georgians," said the message, in Russian. "

wow.... cyberwar for real!

Nice try, KGB (or the KGB in the new name)

By the way.... if this is for real... cyberattacking our US website... hmm... isn't this kind of national security issue?

Where is our FBI and Homeland Security?... are they still busy sueing that Boston student for download/sharing music on net?

hmmm.....

Exactly how many computers/how much bandwidth would be required to take down huge sites like Facebook and Twitter?
I still agree with a poster to a previous article...MySpace did it... :)

The plot thickens! *dons Sherlock Holmes costume w/magnifying glass and peers around with it*

Well before the Georgian conflict started Russian hackers were busy at work hacking Georgian sites. It would be no surprise if these hackers were working directly for the Russian government.

Just thought I might add that Xbox Live went down yesterday as well around 11:05pm (EST). No idea if it's related, but could be. Might have just been a coincidental technical glitch.

I8CookieMonster: it doesn't necessarily take a lot of bandwidth to run a DDoS... you could send craploads of bogus data requests to the site sent to spoofed addies... or a number of other things that don't require large sums of bandwidth from the attackers...

Yeah that shut him up... I'm sure 99% of people who read this article have never heard of him. And probably a bunch of people are going to go google his blog (and hope that it has an English translation). Censorship fail.

Assumptions. Make. You. Look. Stoooopid.

"Cyxymu" (Sukhumi) seems to be the cyrillic name of is the capital of Abkhazia, the other former provice of Georgia, that Georgians invaded in 1992, to suppress its independance movement.

Anyway, why would FSB PR that kid this way?

If even Condoleezza Rice admited that it was Georgia that started the war in S.O., only the blind ones can still believe the Georgian bluff. They have already spread so much BS regarding the war to fool us all, one more lie coming from a Georgian kid incapable to accept the painful truth won't change anything.

"It was a simultaneous attack across a number of properties targeting him to keep his voice from being heard"
Oh, the usual pathos without any meaning. I wonder what this voice can tell us? That Georgians barbarically killed more than a thousand civilians with Grad launchers in S.O. ... and get US humanitarian help now?
This world is truly insane.
