I'm a liberal democrat and I can say f...k off, look bottom line, just get rid of the Bush Tax Cuts and call it a day. That would instantly cut our deficit in half to a much more manageable $500 billion. The fact is our economic engine is average joes buying isht, it's not investment, it's not rich folks starting companies, it's average joes spending their money on needless isht. It accounts for 70% of our GDP. So, stop trying this fair tax stuff, let average joes have money and spend it. Our economy was just fine, prior to an unneeded tax cut to wealthy people, even the "recession" of that time was a joke a .3% drop in GDP, REagan's recession was 2.6% and the recession Obama inherited was 6% by contrast, you want growth, put the money in the hands of people to spend. We aren't rich , we aren't going to go invest overseas are start businesses and hire foreign workers, we are going to infuse the money right here in our economy by buying stuff, right in good old USA.

Dumb axx's they make this way more complicated than it needs to be.

In Canada, buying from another province, there was no PST (provincal) only GST (federal). But now there is HST in my province which is basically GST (GST+PST combined), so no matter what province i buy from, I have to pay HST, even if that province i buy from has not implemented HST yet. Any seller with a GST number is required by law to collect HST from sales from provinces that have HST implemented.

They did this in Europe, now the tax rate is going up to 23%. So federal tax is bad. It only bennifits the states/provinces that are larger economy especially where all the manufactoring occures, while the other state/provinces suffer as they loose tax revenue.

ex: you buy something from another state/province then resell it in your own. Well you pay tax from where your bought it, and then when you resell the state/province get the different in tax minus the amount paid, so the other state/province is bennifiting more of in state/province sale due to the tax credit. So the flow of money goes from poor state/provinces to rich state/provinces.

At least when states/proovinces collect their own money if bennifits only that state/province, but when the money goes federally there is a bigger chance something can go wrong and the stateprovoince is loosing its independence.

Federal tax is bad for the economy period even if corporate people try to push consumer added taxes. Corporates are the bad guys and they only care about profits and don't care if consumers have to pay more. THe more taxes collected from consumers then corporate tax rates can be cut. So Corporate entities need government to collect more consumer tax so they can get all the breaks. At the end of the day, its the hiddent investors of such companies that collect all the dividents and avoid paying any tax. In europe since the tax rate is so high there is more black market/under the table trade leading to increase tax rates. So federal tax keeps going up and never down, just so investors at the top of the food chain ger more money from the corporations they control.

this may not sound very nice having your goods bought on the internet a bit more expensive...
but have any of you thought about how amazon is killing small independent book stores?
is nice to have cheap products but its killing diversity in the market no one is gonna want to open a new business anymore its just big ones eating up the small ones that didnt give up yet

[citation][nom]bourgeoisdude[/nom]Anytime you see the word "fairness" in a bill or proposition, be afraid.[/citation]

Great rule to live buy....if someone is trying to sell you on how fair something is it's probably a trap, let the "fairness" of something play out in how it operates.

This is total bull shit i'm starting to hate this greedy country more and more.

These guys need to get the crap beat out of them.

I think the rich few who have control are becoming a little scared that they are about to lose it. Some have given up on America as a source for wealth. Others are trying to hold on to power. Still others seem to want to tighten the grip, while not caring about how much we are taxed. I'm reminded of Boston, and tea...for some reason.

[citation][nom]ravewulf[/nom]The full list of senators on the bill (organized by state, then last name)🙁Ark.) John Boozman (R)(Ark.) Mark Pryor (D)(Ill.) Dick Durbin (D)(Mo.) Roy Blunt (R)(R.I.) Jack Reed (D)(R.I.) Sheldon Whitehouse (D)(S.D.) Tim Johnson (D)(Tenn.) Lamar Alexander (R)(Tenn.) Bob Corker (R)(Wyo.) Mike Enzi (R)[/citation]

So...what vested interest do these jerkoffs have in common? What company is it that they own shares of that they think this bill will help?

The problem is the crap we're buying is already made somewhere else. So every dollar you spend goes to a Saudi Investor, a Chinese worker, or a corporate big wig who could be on a yacht anywhere to dodge corporate tax. Fact is, dollars in the hands of Americans does nothing if we don't keep jobs here at home and limit our imports from China. There's no such thing as "fair trade" if China is handed our business (thank you Clinton). Government spending on wars, people making babies they can't support, slashing education when we need to be revising education and putting MORE money into it (Macbooks are also not needed in elementary schools). I feel that THESE are some of the things that we need to address.

Economic cycles predict that we will always reach a point where monopolization has happened and there needs to be a breakdown of the capitalist system (a revolution and re-distribution of wealth) to right this. It will happen. Its simply a matter of when. I hope it isn't in my lifetime or my daughter's, because its a bloody mess.

States should never have any domain over the Internet, unless it's from a seller and buyer from the same state. This is a brand new can of worms nobody is going to want to deal with when it's all said and done. This is just another means for politicians to find a way to make you give more to them. It's virtually a luxury tax without calling it such.

As far as the US having low taxes, I think many of you forget just how many taxes there are to contend with, to make up for the low rate of taxes. As a matter of fact, it's not so much the U.S. have low taxes, it's that everyone else's taxes are too damn high and they're afraid of saying anything about it.

Basically ever online company may loss revenue due to this law. That is less taxes for your state. Everyone employee employed by these online sales company's may see cuts in their wages. That is less taxes for your states. The Federal government may jump in and say the servers you made your purchases on are not in the US thus you owe tariffs. The Net outcome should be every work for online company's vote against these dumb Senates for wasting tax payers money used to come up with lame Ideal.

Article I, Section 5 of the US Constitution states:

"All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives"

Consequently, no tax bill may be proposed by the Senate.

Yeah, a great law when they abide by it.....

Congratulations you just killed any internet commerce business left in USA if this goes...I'm ordering EVERYTHING from China online then.
How about you cut your senator salary and stop accepting bribes from big companies and actually tax THEM. Assholes!

I live in NH and can testify that hundreds of Taxachusetts residents already come to NH to avoid sales tax when shopping. (we have no retail sales tax at all in NH)

We personally run a retail location and a website. Are we supposed to ask for ID in our store and charge MA residents more than our other customers? Or do these proposed taxes just apply to screwing over our internet customers?

And are we supposed to file paperwork with every individual county in every state where we have a customer? Sure there's software that can calculate the taxes for us, but does this software also file the taxes for us with all 10000 counties where we might make a sale?

It's not the retailers fault (internet or brick and mortar) that some states lawmakers are fiscally irresponsible when it comes to running a budget. If they're looking to blame someone for a leaky revenue bucket, maybe they should start by looking in the mirror!
