I recently bought a GA-7VARXP, with an AMD Athlon XP 1900+, etc...

I have installed all the drivers (VIA 4in1 drivers, sound drivers, etc), but I am still finding an unknown device in the device manager. Windows can't detect any drivers for it, or what the nature of it is. Its location, according to the device manager, is on the VIA Standard PCI to ISA Bridge. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Thanks,

It's probably a device enabled in the BIOS that you aren't using, which could be something like the Promise RAID controller, the Realtek Lan controller, or the onboard CT5880 Audio chip with the gameport. If you aren't using one of these, and don't need it ... either disable it, or install a driver.

This could also be the VIA USB 2.0 controller, which might require you to download and install the driver.

FYI- Always look for the latest drivers from the website, and never use the ones on the CD that is included with mainboard. The ones on the CD are usually out-of-date.

If you are using WinXP, you might find this link helpful:

Good answer Toejam. I bet it's the USB driver too. I use the same board. The driver is located on the installation cd that came with the mobo. it's listed under other devices (or other drivers). Once it's installed instal the USB 2.0 patch also on the CD. If you're not using a Raid configuration disable the promise chipset in the Bios, same goes for sound and gameport.....
