Upgrade from 970 to 1080 for VR worth it?

Like the title says I'm currently running a Asus strix 970 with i7 4790k and have an HTC vive. Is it worth making the upgrade to the new 1080s.... specifically the new Asus strix version? I have noticed some stutter at random times when I run it now but nothing to bad.

Are there any comparison benchmarks for these while in VR?

Thanks!

Hmm. Well I would say if you want a big blast of VR, then get the GTX 1080. It will be immensely better than a GTX 970 in VR, with the gddr5x and the 8GB and the 1.61 clock.

The 970 is a minimum spec and can run VR, but it will probably not perform as well overall as a GTX 1080 can. http://www.roadtovr.com/nvidia-gtx-1080-benchmark-review-performance-head-to-head-against-the-980ti/3/#conclusion
When compared to a 980ti, both hold good 55-60fps fine. It's playable and great for both cards. The 970 might be less, but it's up to you to think how great you want your VR exprierende

I'm in the same boat. Waiting for my MSI GTX1080 gaming X to arrive to replace my MSI 970 Gaming. Hoping for big improvemnts but honestly the 970 does pretty well on its own. When I saw 970 was the min spec for gpu, I was worried I'd only have bad experiences. This was not the case and only rarely needed mor power.

I bought the 970 when my vive arrived andd played with that for a while. But decided to send it back within its return period as the 1080 was released.

The few stutters I had with the 970 have vanished. Was it worth the extra £235 likely not, but I am still glad I did it. First ever flagship card I have had, usually went below, 970, then 670, then 460ti etc etc.

If the stutters really break VR for you, yes it is worth it.

With current development of PS4 VR I would suggest to wait if upgrade is only for VR experience. PC really failed on that field, you might satisfy yourself more with new console + vr headset which will come at same price most likely. 1080 is solid jump ~50% in performance according to benchmarks.

PC failed

Because tech isn't as powerful enough to run it smoothly at the point. At least not cheaper tech. Unless you are talking RX 480. But I mean once those consoles come out you could still get a good PC exprierence by then. If the price lowered enough to make a console, you can make a console killer by then. Without fretting about budget.
