upgrade to FASTER laptop..wat to look for compared to my current laptop

i am wanting a new laptop...FASTER than what i have now...what exactly do i look for that means better performance/speed than mine?
CURRENT LAPTOP
Toshiba satellite L305D-S5900
AMD Athlon 64 1.9 GHz Dual-Core processor
3.0 gb ram
250 gb harddrive
windows 7...

where do i start? so confused..and stupid!

You should start with CPU & GPU.
You can go for Intel Core i5 (4th gen) CPUs (or i7).
GPU should be minimum nVidia GTX 740M, for gaming.
What's your budget?

If you want to basic game cheap, go amd, (do research) if you want more pro machine (better battery life ,
)go intel. Be aware, no serious gpu lappy will give good battery life playing games.
