Upgrading laptop on ASUS K53Z

I recently decided to upgrade my CPU in my laptop. I went from an AMD A4-3305M dual core, to an AMD A8-3520M Quad core.

I have done multiple cpu swaps in laptops before, I did my research and it seemed it would work with the latest bios. So I updated the bios took it apart and did the swap.

I attempted to boot and it would freeze at the windows splash screen. I had a copy of windows 8 I was going to try anyways, so I have tried to install it as well but still no luck.

Also I couldn't get it to boot in safe mode either. The BIOS does recognize the new cpu, and does not show temperatures being high at all.

Any help would be great.

I only found one poster on two different forums (same username so the same guy said the same thing in two different places) that said the A8 works in that laptop. Don't know if it actually will work or not in your case if that is what you went by.

I tried with the same laptop and updated BIOS tried to upgrade to a A8 3500M and couldn't get it to display anything when I booted it. I am not to sure what the difference is between the 3520 and the 3500, but I don't think and A8 works Maybe the A6 would work?

My motherboard is QBL60 LA-7552P REV 1.0

3500M is the higher TDP chip, isn't it? I'm probably the guy that posted saying a 3520M would work, and it does -- booted instantly. Typing on that laptop now, running Win 8.1 beautifully, overclocked a bit using the FusionTweaker app for this processor (runs very cool, no issues). Just wanted folks to know this upgrade works, and it makes a massive difference to this laptop, particularly the graphics. It's a completely different machine once that weak A4 is gone. 🙂

I can confirm with TitanStats that this indeed works. Based on his feedback I upgraded my Asus K53Z from the dual core AMD A4-3300M (1.9 GHz) to quad core A8-3520M (1.6GHz) and I encountered ZERO problems. It booted fine straight from the start though it did have to reinstall the AMD drivers using Windows Update (on Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium).

Bought my CPU off eBay too.

Oh and I have overclocked it to 1900MHz using AMD's Overdrive in the Catalyst drivers and the fan doesn't run audibly at all - remains cool and quiet. Also, it can take up to 2500MHz during the Overdrive tests for turbo speed. But I'm comfortable using 1900MHz as a daily driver, the same regular CPU speed as the A4-3300M dual core, but now quad using the A8-3520M.

It raised my Windows Experience score from a 5.3 to a 5.8 too (CPU went to 6.9, Memory (8GB) at 7.2, Graphics 5.8 (Windows Aero), Gaming Graphics 6.5, Disk Transfer Rate 5.9).
