Upgrading VRAM on a Notebook

I know it is not possible to upgrade the graphics card in a laptop, although is there any way I can upgrade the Video RAM? I only have 1Gb of VRAM and my notebook can game just fine, the only issue is when the games run out of VRAM. If there isn't a way to upgrade the VRAM are there any other solutions I can try to prevent VRAM loss?

Do you think if I upgrade my RAM from 8gb to 16gb it would subside the issue with VRAM?

You already have 8GB? doubt it would help too much. What the make and model of your laptop? what games/apps are you having issue with?

CPU: Intel Core i7-6600U Quad 2.5GHz
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 940m 1G
Display: Intel HD Graphics 520
RAM: 8GB

Planet Coaster

and lower the resolution didn't help?
940m is low-med
a xxxxu cpu is dual core for light ultra notebook. issue might be with the cpu.

I'll try lowering the resolution on some of the games and report back here.

Okay, most of the games improved by lowering resolution. However, Planet Coaster and Rollercoaster Tycoon World still have issues, although this is most likely because of the VRAM right? The minimum specs for VRAM are 2Gb for both, recommended is 4Gb.

Okay, I feel so ignorant right now. I just found out I have 2048mb of dedicated video memory while looking through the NVIDIA Control Panel. It's very good to know I have 2GB of VRAM. However, I know that 2GBs is not much compared to how much is there is able to be.
