I plugged in a new external hdd to my laptop to transfer some of my stuff on it like i usually do , but this time after i moved the files, i plugged it out and back in to check some other things, but when I plugged it in , the laptop shut down like a short circuit happened. Now no usb ports work, they give a little amount of power as when I plug in just the keyboard its lighting up, but the light is dim , like its dying. If I plug one more usb everything dies and disconnects. The laptop however works just fine.

What should I do? The laptop has barely 3 months of age , and its an Asus F550ZE-XX072T

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- First, uninstall/reinstall the USB drivers from Device Manager.
- If it doesn't work do perform a System Restore. Restore the laptop to an earlier date when it was working properly.
- Here's how: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc
- If all these will not work, last option would be to contact ASUS support for a repair.
