Usb sound card with SteelSeries siberia v2 on ps3

I have the Steelseries siberia v2 headset but not the cross platform, it only has the headphone and mic jack. I was just wondering if i could buy a usb sound card and plug the mic jack into that and the headphone jack into the female audio jack i have for my ps3 or would i not hear game or chat sound?

Have never tried that method, but a headset adapter of sorts usually does the trick. Something along these lines:

Used something similar for my XBox 360 and PC Turtle Beach headset.
