USB tethering grayed out

I have been using USB tethering from my Android phone to my windows 10 laptop around 3 months ago, but now the option is not available.

I have tried some changes under "Developer options" on my Android as suggested in different posts on the internet. I can't get it to work. (Maybe those posts refer to an earlier problem? A security update in November 2017 is mentioned.)

I've a Motorola G5 with Android 7 (latest update of course) and an Acer Swift SF113-31 running Windows 10.

Any ideas?

Are you sure that your carrier/service provider has not removed that option from the account? Which could cause this issue.
