Using headphones and having sound output from Sharp.

I have a sharp TV with headphone jacks but I went to also have sound coming from the speakers (to drown out loud AC) Sharp said I needed a digital optical cable but nothing else. Is there a quick and easy way to nave sound from both? Thanks.

You can use simple Y-splitter audio cable plugged into the headphones jack - one branch goes to your headphones, the other to your powered speakers.

You could use optical out (if your TV has it), but you would need speakers whch have corresponding input, or an optical-to-RCA converter. This would help you maintaining separate audio volumes on headphones and spealers.

I wanted to be able to use the speakers on my TV (my Toshibu has speaker son when the headphone is plugged in. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

So with a y-Splitter I would just need some speakers. I don't need to adjust the sound I just want to be able to hear it when I'm in another room. This sounds like the easiest and most cost effective.

It does have and optical out but then I'd have to buy some converter box and that's when my brain shuts down and I can't think. I just want simple and easy.

Do have any speaker options.

This should work, although I would avoid the splitters with three rings and a tip (like for smart phones), look for one like this.

I am afraid most audio equipment these days mutes the speakers when headphone jack is used, so if you want TV speakers AND headphones (another set of speakers), you have to use another output from the TV (and it seems the only one available is optical).

Thanks. My purpose was to try to drown out the screeching of an AC, but even with headphones it won't work so AC going back. But good to know about this. I'm not technical at all so this was educational. Thanks.

I have the Y splitter but when I plug in one side it comes up with a pop up that it's the headphones or mic, I have the apple headphones. The headphones work fine with a splitter but the mic does not work, I believe the problem lies within the settings, do you know what mode I should have the mic and the headphones? I am using windows 10 and the pop up comes from the Realtek HD audio
