Hi,I have Vaio SVE15116 laptop which was working fine and shut down properly. Now when I'm trying to start the laptop it does start but with no display plus it shuts down automatically in few minutes. I tried cleaning ram as well as direct power but same thing. When it starts I even tried going to BIOS but no matter what I do there's no display and it shuts off. Please help me I have exam in 4 days and everything I have is in this laptop.

In any Windows system other than 8, press the F8 key as you power up the laptop then select Safe Mode. Go into Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer then System Logs and see if there are any clues to the unexpected shutdown.

Also try opening up in Normal Mode and straight away, press the Windows key and R together then type
shutdown -a
then hit the Enter key. Every thirty seconds or so, do it again but this time, don't type anything - just hit Enter and that should reinforce the command to abort the shutdown.

The second part of my sugegstion would work if there was no display and at least would prevent the shutdown. Did you try the Safe Mode option?

My only other idea at this stage is to try connecting the laptop to an external screen. Do you know anyone who's lend you a monitor or let you connect to theirs? You could also try pressing the Fn key and whichever function key you would need to switch back to the bulit-in screen from an external screen - usually F5 or 6 - in case the laptop thinks it's outputting to another screen.

Try the suggestion which Saga Lout posted.

If that does not solve it, remove the thermal paste on the CPU and graphics card (which might be difficult - depends on your experience with computer repairs).

The easiest solution (for now) is to remove the HDD, connect it to another computer which is working properly and has an HDD with an OS and attach the Sony VAIO's HDD to it, and boot from the 'working properly' computer HDD. That way you can access the Sony VAIO's HDD Data, for now. at least you can access your data and studies from the HDD.
