and if you really want a good old fashioned racist undertone that a)makes a light hearted poke at the time period and b)does so with almost no notice from media, or even the people playing the game, then take a good hard look at team fortress 2, it's character lineup, and it's weapons. It really shows that we are in a different time period due to the fact that i've mentioned this IN GAME to several people and they JUST REALIZE IT. Not something that most of us think of this day in age. For those of you that don't have the game (should be very few of you) the black guy's melee weapon is a bottle that you can break and has the cartoonish trademark "xxx" for liqour on it. The game is set in the 50's era. And the social comment has been pointed out in other popular media such as clerks 2. Yet none of the players seem to ever have a problem with it, and I know for a fact that I have personally played with several black people of several different nationalities. It's just not the way we think anymore, save for the ultra defensive people who keep the race card flying out the window every time they think they can get away with it or gain something from it. Lets face it, there's no such thing as a hate crime, if you do something out of malice to another human being, you should be treated the same no matter what color or creed that person tends to be. And when subtle social commentary in any form should be taken with a grain of salt. EG: all of the tf2 characters are heavily stereotypical in one way or another, but you don't see russians getting upset over the heavygun english mangling heavy, now do you? at least i think that's what his nationailty is supposed to be. Or the new york/Brooklyn stylization of the scout. Possibly not even the Australian outback crocodile dundeesque look of the sniper. Nope, not one peep. They ALL carry stereotypes. I'm just going to sue over the fact that Native americans are not represented in the game (unless that's the pyro, who knows, i'm native and i like to burn things, kidding). Point being, people need to start joining us here in the real world and cease to point out racism where it doesn't exist.

This is a clear case of over-reaction and simply not doing your homework. It reminds me of a semi-recent episode of Hardball on M$NBC - some douche "pundit" claimed that a white senator was racist for saying that "if inflation isn't a big deal than Zimbabwe must be a great place to live" (sarcastically). This tool pundit lost it on the Republican senator (who is also probably a big douche), saying why'd you have to pick on a black country? Maybe, but I doubt it. Probably just a run-of-the-mill dipshit plagued by the need to over-compensate for his fear of black people, most likely stemming from white guilt. Though it is interesting that when you add any non-white characters to a protagonist role, these fools either cheer or say "not good enough". Then you go and add any non-whites to antagonist, or even anti-hero roles, and they always bitch.

All I can say is wow, back off for a second. Racism is so out of place now, it's not even funny anymore. You can kill 100 white ones and 2 black ones, and then everyone says "OMFG! You shot a black guy, YOU RACIST BASTARD!!!!" But yea, I'm always thinking that afro-ameros think they're so special cuz everyone has been brainwashed to think racism is such a big deal and it completely covers their mind. If someone on the street suddenly blurted out "black!", then they'd blurt back "racist!"

Honestly I think they just want an excuse to look for trouble... I've racially offended blackies at school and they go crazy! Then the vice principal suspends me for half a day. He says that it should be "1-20 days", and it sounded like he also thought it was a bunch of bs, but he had to follow the policy to prevent being fired... Oh well, I hated geography class anyways... had the afternoon free 😛

As a foreigner looking at this with interest, I was able to think up of only one thing.

Americans need to band together and see themselves as Americans, not hyphenated Americans.

We in Canada have adopted this mentality somewhat, and although hyphenation is still widely used (such as Chinese-Canadian) we treat each other more or less the same way as any other race. Perhaps this is why the average racial hatred crime rate in Canada is much lower than in the United States.

I think it's time the public and every race in the US dropped the hyphenation identifying their original race. Having hyphenations like "African-American" just serves to increase the racial barrier among groups and incite racial hate. At the same time, laws have to be changed to take a more aggressive stand against racial groups such as the KKK.

Special groups such as the NAACP don't help the cause either. All they do is praise achievements by African-Americans and advocate their policies no matter how unfeasible or unsuitable it may be. If anyone refuses then they would be labeled "racist". Hence the key to stopping all this unnecessary racial talk is for every group to work together to eliminate the trivial differences among us.

I hope the US can one day become as diverse and united as others around the world.

The tension exists, that's not deniable. African Americans (a term I dislike because it differentiates yet again) now have a reason to call out racists because they have a sympathetic ear in the white house. So I certainly expect to see more of this. I'm sure many want an apology for slavery. But quite frankly, based on what I see in Africa, they ought to be thankful for they were rescued by Americans.
