Vegas 6 Rendering Quality

Hey guys, I have wanted to make sweet Youtube videos for a while now, and I've been messing around with render settings on my Vegas 6. I don't have any better of a program. I am worried, though, that because Vegas 6 is so old, it can't render in beautiful quality, but I'm determined to find the best quality I can find for render settings. I'm recording with Fraps. I want my Vegas-rendered video to look as good as it does directly from my Movies folder (but in Youtube).

The main issue now is the size. I've tried 1680x1050 pixels, 1280x720, 1440x880(or something), and "keep original size," and each one has a ton of black around the edges. My format is typically along the lines of

Format: Windows Media Video 9
Mode: Quality VBR
Image size: (see above)
Pixel aspect ratio: 1.333
Frame rate: 30.00
Seconds per keyframe: 1
Quality: 100%

and Rendering Quality: Best

I appreciate all the tips I can get! Let's figure this out together. I'd greatly appreciate it,

Pixel aspect ratio should be 1. And you should set field order to progressive scan (rather than upper/lower first).

Lastly, download xvid codec from www.xvid.org and render using that.

Those settings are pretty good. I think this quality is about the least that I'd prefer for Youtube:

But do you notice how it's choppy? The frames are sometimes really jacked up... I think it's Pixel Aspect Ratio that changes whether it's nasty or not.

It's not choppy, it's ARTIFACTING like hell... Is the original recording the same? I mean, those random squares popping up?

Yeah, I didn't know the correct term for what it was doing. The original Fraps recording (what I threw into Vegas) was not at all artifacting like the video I posted on Youtube. It's Pixel Aspect Ratio that messes it up. At 1.00 PAR, it's choppy on Youtube. At 1.01 PAR, which this video is: http/www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj5atZfgW1g
it's not choppy at all. I'll probably just to 1.01 because it basically doesn't mess with the size. That original recording was recorded half-size in Fraps so it's not as amazing to watch. I'll try to upload a full-size one and see how it looks compared to the other.

(Edit: By the way, your video looks absolutely amazing in 1080p. It doesn't get any better than that... Now if only Youtube would keep my videos in nice quality...)

Here's my newest issue. I am rendering videos with Sony Vegas 6 and they look INCREDIBLE on my computer if I open up the file. But once I upload it to Youtube, it loses a good deal of quality. This is the best I could get it:

But on my own computer, it looks AMAZING. Seriously, it looks crisp and flawless. Why does Youtube jack it up like that? How can I prevent that? It's Youtube's fault, right?

What resolution are the videos on your PC? I suppose it's not 1280x720 or 1920x1080, as those are the formats youtube supports only? If it's different, youtube has to reencode for lower resolution.

My resolution is 1680x1050... Is that the issue? The video I linked last is actually very nice quality on Youtube I would say, but look at my new montage (I think it looks and sounds very horrible):

Sure, it's not the WORST, and it does have 720p capabilities, but look at how not crisp it looks. And the sound is shredding my ears off! When I play it on my own computer, the sound is amazing and the quality is also amazing. Youtube is destroying my videos... What can I do?

That's the resolution it was recorded in and rendered in.
