Acer Aspire 5538 - when powered on I see a black screen. Under a bright light I can see faint images which after searching I think is a problem with the inverter. I ordered a new inverter but when I dismantle the LCD there is no inverter behind or under the LCD. I do see two cables (white and black) under the hinges but I can not get this disconnected to see if the inverter is located here. I did try to dismantly the back of the laptop and got to a point where I was stuck and frustrated. I did connect the Acer to an external monitor and am able to get a display. Thanks for any help!

Can you post some images, The inverter is just a small board on most laptops.

In general, it is just a matter of following the wires from the tube lights on the screen. It has 1 or 2 transformers(set of coils to increase the voltage)

If the laptop happens to have LED backlight, then you do not have an inverter(but still have some kind of control board, but MUCH less complex).

does sound like the inverter

usually its under the lcd bezel at the bottom of the screen

but i have seen it before under the panel that usually has the power button

just below the bottom of the screen if you have the lid open

would have to check for your particular model

edit--the black and white wires are probably for the wifi

the inverter can also be behind the lcd screen which would mean removing the lcd from the lid plastics

Have you asked a technician to check your Laptop? If not yet, please feel free to do so. Computer technician knows best. It might require you to pay big bucks but its all worth it.
