Very odd Z-5500 Issue

Hey Guys,

I have the logitech Z-5500 system and I get a very loud hum on my DIRECT source when I plug in the COAX cable (In the Coax port). There is no hum on Optical or Coax. Why would the Coax cable cause my Direct input to hum? Computer is hooked up to direct, Cable box is hooked up to Coax. When I remove the Coax cable the Hum instantly disappears. Can a Coax cable go bad and cause a hum on a different input? This makes no sense to me.

It could be your coax or even some leakage coming thru it from your cable box.
Is your coax exposed to to anything giving off a signal/power?
If the shielding isnt good on your coax, some signal will leak thru

I just found out if the coax is half unplugged, the sound still comes through but there is no humming... it was a cheap cable. Can shielding go bad, because I didn't always have this problem. Thanks

If the cord gets kinked or bent it can. It could be made poorly, and any twisting etc could have broke some of the insulation
When its halfways in, do you still get all signals? Like stereo etc?

yes, it is still stereo when it's halfway in. Not sure if it is surround sound though

If its getting full signal part way in, then its most likely somehow related to your card/connect there.
Try reversing the cord if you can
