Vga to hdmi adaptor for laptop to tv

Hello everyone!!!
I jus bought a hdmi to vga cable to connect my laptop to my tv by extending the desktop, i can't get it to work, does anybody knows what i could be doing wrong?
I will really appreciate any help

Most vga signals are analog, whereas hdmi is a digital signal. They don't mix without some kind of converter box.
