enzo matrix, maybe this link is enough to point to the truth:

Linky

with a little more help from google maybe.

In addition to TV advertising, the campaign will feature blogged commentary and behind-the-scenes imagery from Inuvik to provide a catalyst for conversation on a new Tropicana Brighter Mornings Facebook page, which will launch as the new commercials premiere nationally. Throughout the course of the campaign, Tropicana will aim to create and facilitate compelling “brighter mornings” stories with consumers online, through social media, public relations initiatives and a major sponsorship with Breakfast Television in key markets across Canada.

For it to be fake would just not be worth the bad press.

[citation][nom]Parsian[/nom]Such a waste of energy, since they could of achieved that amount of lumens by 4 or 5 Metal Halide Bulbs since they are rated at 250 W and produce 20,000 Lumens:http://www.prolighting.com/mh250-c-u.html[/citation]
They probably did use HID bulbs - did you expect them to use incandescent bulbs? Believe me - that was more than 100k lumens.

Interesting. But they could have spent the $$ on a system to keep the oranges from freezing in Florida. Due to winter damages, Tropicana will be raising the price of their OJ soon.

There is a type of lamp called sulphur plasma lamp that emits a light that is so close to the solar spectrum that they are called daylight lamps. They are very powerful and energy efficient compared to other illumination technologies.
Of course there are some technological downsides which I hope will be overcome soon with the introduction of silicon carbide based microwave emitters.

This same balloon can also be bulb-ed to produce 48,000 watts HMI. Sure it would produce almost 4 times the light but it would look like the moon at 5600K color temp, instead of the sun at 3200K. It is a small amount of energy consumed using it a few hours over two days, compared to many commercials. The object was to do something different and nice to make more people aware of their brand of orange juice. Obviously it's working.

[citation][nom]davendork[/nom]It chases away all the vampires. Honestly, I don't understand why humans choose to live in these conditions. Still a happier place than Cleveland...[/citation]
Because there is an advantage to it. Resourceful members of the species tend to take advantage of any possible niche. It is our blessing and our curse.

Do you [people] honestly believe this was left on for any extended period? It was a marketing campaign and I'd be surprised if it was left on for more than 1 day.

Geez people, companies do radical things (like light up the 'night' sky) as a way to promote their product - surely you weren't born yesterday?!
