Vizio TV won't play Philips DVD player! Help!

I have a Vizio 42'' tv. I have a Philips Blue Ray DVD player. The Philips logo turns on when you power on the dvd player, but after the logo appears the screen goes black and wont play a dvd or go to home screen of the player. What should i do??

It is unclear if the issue is the TV or the Bluray player. I would first try to use the Bluray player on another TV and see if it is working as that may be the issue.
