want to convert auxiliary input to auxiliary output in home stereo

Is there something I can buy like a converter or adapter that can change my home stereo's auxiliary input to an auxilliary output ? I am trying to connect a portable speaker to my stereo, but they both have auxilliary inputs .

no, an input can't be changed to an output. it's not wired that way inside.

You can use a y cable splitter, which you can attach to one of the stereo's regular RCA outputs. As long as you have an unused output on the stereo, a cable like ths will work.

Thank you for your suggestion about the y cable, but unfortunately my stereo doesn't have rca jacks, it's a newer model. It only has an audio line in jack (aux.), a headphone jack, and a usb port. If you know of another solution I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

The jacks are not relevant. You can't make an input into an output. You could connect a speaker to line level to converter like this:

to the wires going to the existing speakers in the stereo and connect the external ones to it. If you want just the external speakers to play disconnect the wires from the internal speakers.

You could plug the speaker into the headphone jack,but note that this will turn off your existing speakers.
