Watch cable on my projector (no hdmi)

I have an older projector with vga, s-video and a video in. I have a Directv cable box and would like to watch football through the projector. I can use the projector with my laptop using hdmi to vga cable. Using same cable plugged into cable box, I can't get a signal. What am i missing??

This is because HDMI signal on the cable box is encrypted (Google/Bing HDCP, so you don't steal the programming), and the converter cable does not support that.

Say Hollywood, torrents, etc "thank you" for that ;(

Wanted to update anyone that stumbles across my post! I called Directv installer and he brought a cable to my house that is for the Directv box and it works like a charm!!
