my external hard disk of make 'WD MyPassport Essential" has got locked after left connected it on the laptop (Windows 8) without safely removing the hard disk and then hibernating the laptop.

After that, when I powered on my laptop, only VCD is visible in My Computer and I am getting password prompt for unlocking the disk.

I never set any password on my disk then why is it asking for password? I can't even format the disk for password reset as I have my critical data stored in it.

Please help so that I can get my data back.

Note: I am the genuine owner of this hard disk and have the Purchase Invoice also. If any moderator wants the scanned copy, I can send to validate my ownership.

We're not going to help you bypass a password. Sorry but we have no way to know the drive is really yours. Contacting WD is the correct answer for this situation and if you are ever the one with their external drive stolen you'll be glad to know we won't help them either.

I understand the concern of my identity & HDD ownership validation so its okay. If somebody can tell me if this is possible to bypass the password of WD External harddisk (specifically My Passport Essential) then it will be really helpful. Then I will definitely contact WD and pay whatever they charge for this.
