Web browsing: Accidentally clicked a porn site... Will that immediately infect my browser/computer?

Clicked on a link via email and it led me to a porn site. I immediately closed my browser and cleaned all history, then performed a full virus scan with negative infection results. Most-likely my computer is clean, but still would like to know a few things.

I understand that having a virus protection software does not guarantee a pc's cleanliness in terms of viruses, malware, etc., but I'd like to know if it's possible to have a 100% clean pc as far as viruses, malware, etc.?
I also would like to know why some anti-virus/malware software are considered better than others. Ex: Windows Defender, AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials, etc.
I have read somewhere that almost any internet activity will infect a pc, given enough time.
How do we prevent such thing, and what's the best way to ensure a clean pc?

I wouldn't know personally or anything, but merely clicking on a porn site link doesn't infect your PC. In most cases, porn sites are safe. Just make sure your virus scanner is running and you don't click ok to any popups. Also, close any pop-up windows you don't trust using the task manager rather than the 'OK', 'Cancel' or other buttons on the pop-up windows just to be safe. Be smart about the prompts you see. They can be like inviting a vampire into your house.

That being said, you can get a virus from many sources that are and aren't porn. Any of the popular anti-virus products are good to run. I run Avast! on my Windows 7 machines and Windows Defender on my Windows 8.1 machine. Using Malwarebytes in conjunction with these has proven pretty rock solid from an anti-virus/anti-malware standpoint for me to the extent that I haven't had to re-install an OS since the XP days of half a decade ago.

what antivirus are you running?also download malwarebytes and scan with it.delete anything it comes up with.any link like that in your email has the potential for malware.

Sorry to open this one up again, but many of you suggested malwarebytes. I've tried it and it looks pretty good, except the paid version is more like a yearly subscription. Any free alternative to this? Like AVG for antivirus, etc.

you can run the free version of malwarebytes,it just doenst give you realtime protection.you do need a good antivirus in conjunction with malwarebytes.what antivirus do you presently use?i recommend avast.its lite on resources and is one of the top rated free avs.
