What anti-virus exc Software should I use?

Ok this seems to be a next to impossible topic to solve, but what software should I use if I want somthing thats simple, effective as hell and is free of "pay-us" options.

atm. I am using Avast but I am suspecting it is making my system freeze from time to time.

I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials for quite a while and have had zero issues. It is free, no ads, and fully supported by Microsoft. It can be downloaded here:

I also use Malwarebytes (the free version will meet most users' needs) to scan/clean malware as well. It can be downloaded from:

Best FREE detection engine is Bitdefender.

I have never experienced freezing problem with AVAST, using it since 5 years but no issues whatsoever.
