Solved! What are the signs of lcd failure

what are the signs of laptop lcd failure;
I have black horizonal line on specific areas of the screen;
i suspect someone closed my laptop with a pen on the key board
any ideas

Are the lines all over the place or are they in the area where you figure the pen was? If so, i'd say the pen ruined the pixels in that section of the screen. You can probably order a replacement screen or send it in if it is under warranty.
