hey everyone I used this forum a lot for questions I had, but im wondering what my alienware can run. im looking to run the division and farcry 3.

m14x: i7-2630QM, 750 HDD is all that's provided but that should narrow it down to find out. I'm not sure if its a gforce card or the hd 3000 intel but I think its a GeForce because why would it come out 2014 as a intel on a alienware. please help me out thanks a lot

The A8-7410 is about as powerful as a 4th generation Core i3. It's Radeon R5 (Beema/Carrizo) integrated graphics is less powerful than the Intel HD 4000 graphics core found in 3rd generation Intel CPUs. Intel is currently up to their 6th generation CPUs with 7th generation Core i3/i5/i7 laptops to be released for sale "soon". Intel already confirmed they started shipping 7th gen CPU to system builders as of July. Integrated graphics has pretty poor performance when compared to dedicated GPUs, but the current Intel HD 520 graphics core is significantly more powerful than the Radeon R5 (Beema/Carrizo) graphics core.

Prices for laptops in CAD currency is rather high. $650 CAD does not get you much; that gets you a laptop that costs...

If that's all that's provided in the spec list then why are you buying it? There is no way to tell what graphics solution, only educated guessing. By the way, the CPU on your laptop came out in 2011 and was likely used until mid to late 2012, so there is no way that laptop is from 2014. If it's from 2011-2012 and it has an Nvidia card it's going to be a low to midrange 400 or 500 series card (450/460/550/560M), or maybe somehow a low end 600 series card but not likely. If not it's the HD 3000. Either way, you won't be playing The Division on it. Far Cry 3 might work at 720p or 900p medium/low.
Please keep in mind that this is my educated guess, only because based on your CPU it doesn't make sense for that laptop to be from 2014.

The nVidia GT 555m is a bit dated and it is less powerful than a few integrated graphic cores. Click the following link for more info and some game benchmarks. And yeah, that laptop is from 2011. I have a laptop with the Intel HD 3000 graphics core (pretty decent I suppose back then, but terrible now) that I purchased back in 2011.

What is your budget for a laptop?

Those m14x models look to be at 5-600 on ebay, not really worth it when for $800 you can get a new system with a faster video card with a full new system warranty. Or $700 if are OK with a bit lower quality and a standard drive vs an SSD. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015PYYDMQ/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B015PYYDMQ&linkCode=as2&tag=tcb79-20&linkId=HWFVBVTR2AWMRCPT <-- $780, very well balanced system.

I think you should hold off on buying it and look for a better laptop. the GT 555M wasn't a good card when it came out, and it's pretty terrible by today's standards. I'll give you as an example my old laptop with a 3GB GTX 670MX. That card was high end when I bought it in early 2013 (and a generation ahead of yours). One of the first games I played on it was Far Cry 3. At 1080p I had to turn off AA and ambient occlusion, and lower down other settings to high or medium to get about 35-40 FPS. Only with overclocking did I get to raise settings up to high and get about 45 FPS.The 555M wouldn't come close to hitting that. The first thing that would go is the resolution, down to 720p. Next would come all advanced settings such as AA, AO. Finally, regular settings would have to drop down to lowest or medium if lucky.

Any modern games, such as The Division, your laptop is toast before you even try to play them.

By the way, what is your budget, or how much are you planning on paying for your laptop? Maybe I can help you find something with more bang for your buck.

im looking at :http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/hewlett-packard-hp-15-6-touchscreen-laptop-amd-quad-core-a8-7410-1tb-hdd-8gb-ram-windows-10-15-af148ca/10394203.aspx?path=c0a34ecaef687a6560852770293fbf56en02

what games could that play? any game I wanted to play? does anyone know if this system meets the requirements for the TCdevision?

That HP with the A8 CPU is not close to a gaming system. A decent gaming system starts about $800, anything less you are looking at low settings and probably lower 720p resolution.

If you are looking at used systems, in your budget you should be able to find a used system with a 960M or even a 970M video card.

Prices for laptops in CAD currency is rather high. $650 CAD does not get you much; that gets you a laptop that costs around $500 in the US which basically gets you a laptop with integrated Intel graphics. If you can bump that up to $685 CAD, then you can purchase the following Acer laptop which has a Core i5-6200, nVidia 940m, 1080p screen, but no backlit keyboard. Basically, it is the least expensive laptop I can quickly find in Canada that has a dedicated GPU.

The nVidia 940m is not considered a "gaming GPU", but it is certainly a lot better than the Intel HD 520 graphics core. Most people would consider the nVidia GTX 960m and above GPUs to be "gaming GPUs". But it seems laptops in Canada with the GTX 960m starts at around $1,300 CAD.
